Bournemouth overcame a spirited Durham side in an explosive match, 2-1 (23-25, 23-25, 20-18) to be crowned Champions in a game played in a competitive spirit which were a shining example of student volleyball.
Bournemouth had an impressive record reaching the Final, having not dropped a set all weekend. After a very competitive first day of competition Bournemouth qualified fairly comfortably from their pool unbeaten and without dropping a set. In the women's competition, Bournemouth topped their pool too.
In the quarter finals Bournemouth Men beat Loughborough whilst the Bournemouth Women beat UCD. The women’s semi final was fiercely contested between Bournemouth and Newcastle in a highly entertaining match which saw Newcastle win 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) and the Bournemouth Women finish in third place. In the men’s semi final Bournemouth and Essex played out a highly charged and fiery match which finally saw Bournemouth book their place in the final once again. 2-0, (25-20, 25-14).
In the final Bournemouth who were able to demonstrate their experience in such situations to claim victory and win the trophy for a third straight year. Bournemouth's Andrea Ivanov did a magnificent job of blasting his way past the Durham block, with Durham having no answer to Andrea's sheer power. He was deservedly awarded Most Valuable Player.
