WESSEX VOLLEYBALL MINI VOLLEYBALL

GRAND PRIX SERIES

Wessex Volleyball are pleased to launch the 2020-21 Mini Volleyball Grand Prix Series. Monthly 2 and 3 aside tournaments for all ages under 15. Teams will play round robin styled matches during each tournament and collect ranking points each game they play in a race to become the season Champion! Prizes available for the top ranked boy and girl from each age group at the end of the season.

Due to limited numbers allowed on volleyball court, we will allow entries on a first come first served basis. You will receive a confirmation once the form and payment has been received. If we are over subscribed, you will go on the reserve list or can request a refund / move to a later event unless we are able to obtain additional court space for the competition.

10.30am - 12.30pm

U15, U13 & U11

* Players across age groups may compete against each other each tournament but rankings will be split into the age groups listed

 

COVID-19 Guidance

Our aim is to provide a fun and safe environment for the Mini Dragons to compete. For that reason, please note the following:

  • All tournament participants and parent/guardians must read and adhere to the clubs COVID-19 Return to Play guidance at all times.

  • Wessex Volleyball Club reserve the right to cancel up until the evening before the tournament for any COVID-19 related issues such as a change in Government advice, change in Volleyball England advice or sports hall provider closes.

  • We may need to limit the number of participants in each tournament and/or ask parents to wait outside/another area of the venue that is away from the playing court.

  • If any attendee chooses not to follow the guidance, they will be asked to leave.

  • Should you have any symptoms, please let us know on info@wessexvolleyball.com as soon as possible and do not attend the tournament

 

Tournament Age Groups

  • U15 (year 10 and below) boys and girls

  • U13 (year 8 and below) boys and girls

  • U11 (year 6 and below) boys and girls

Please note, we may mix and match teams so they play above and below their age groups depending on the number of entries. Champions race points will be awarded based on where they finished in their age group and gender. 

Tournament Rules

  1. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOUR VOLLEYBALL!

  2. Say a BIG THANK YOU to you to the parent/guardian for bringing you to the tournament.

  3. Be kind and show good sportsmanship to your fellow competitors

  4. If players across age groups compete, e.g. U15 vs U13, then teams can each play by their own age group rules (See below)

U15s:

  • Must play as a pair on the court but the team can have 3 players who can rotate on to serve

  • 3 touch normal volleyball rules (no catching allowed)

U13s:

  • Can have 2 or 3 players per team with 2 or 3 players on the court

  • All serves must be from behind the baseline

  • First touch must be a dig or a volley

  • Second touch can be a catch and self-feed volley to another player

  • Third touch must be a volleyball shot over the net (no catching)

 

U11s​​:

  • Can have 2 or 3 players per team with 2 or 3 players on the court

  • Serve can be overarm/underarm or thrown

  • First contact can be caught and self-feed volley to another player

  • Second contact can be caught and self-feed volley to another player

  • Third contact must be a volleyball shot over the net (no catching)

Tournament Format

  • Each tournament will run as a league format, where all teams will play each other with the top two teams playing a final at the end of the competition.

  • Teams will compete on a badminton sized court

  • Players will referee and score each others games

  • Matches will be timed and will start/stop on the organisers whistle

  • Team with the highest points at the final whistle win the match

  • Teams get 3pts for a win, 2pts for a draw and 1pt for a loss.

  • If teams are tied on points at the end of the competition, it will be decided on points difference, then points won and finally points lost. If teams are still the same, they will be joint winners.

Tournament Points

At the end of the tournament, each participant will get individual points towards the Champions Race depending on where they finished in their age group and gender.

  • 1st place receives 4 points

  • 2nd place receives 3 points

  • 3rd & 4th place receives 2 points

  • All other participants receive 1 point

At the end of the season, the top boy and girl for the U15, U13 and U11 ages groups will be crowned season Champion and will receive a prize!

We will email the results to our Mini Dragons after the tournaments and they will be published on our website.
